What is Acupuncture?

Traditional Chinese acupuncture is one of the oldest healing arts that exist.  Over the millennia, acupuncture has been used as a powerl medical tool.  Acupuncture has been used to treat billions of people in a safe, painless and effective way, with the focus on regaining health and addressing countless conditions . Learn more about the conditions that may benefit from acupuncture.

The Eastern philosophy behind acupuncture is that health depends on the vital flow of a life-force energy called qi (pronounsed chee).  Qi circulates through our body along pathways called meridians.  Along these meridians are several hundred therapeutic acupuncture points, which are similar to rest stops along a highway.  It’s believed that illness and pain indicate a disruption, or traffic jam, in the normal flow of Qi.  Disease can not occur when the body is balanced. Inserting hair-thin sterile needles into acupuncture points allows the meridians to unblock the flow of Qi, prompts the release of endorphins (the natural painkillers), hormones and other bodily chemicals.  This awakens our naturally occuring healing abilities within our body to relieve pain, promote healing, and improve well-being.

In recent years, Acupuncture has been gaining more awareness in the west.  Millions of people in the United States alone have tried Acupuncture to relieve pain that has been unsuccessfully treated through other means.  Many others have used it as a way to avoid surgery or the side effects associated with drugs.

What to expect?

The results of acupuncture will fluctuate depending on the goal of the treatment.  Some people feel relaxed, some feel energized and others feel a decrease in symptoms from their ailments. Almost all people feel better than when they walked in the door.  Non-needle techniques such as Acupressure, Teishin or Ear Seeds are also available.  Learn more about what to expect during your first acupuncture session with Erica.
